Virtual therapy is merely the delivery of therapy services using online tools such as videoconferencing.
We use virtual delivery for our clients for a number of reasons:
- Virtual makes it easier to reach you wherever you are. You don’t have to rush to an office to be seen, and we can adapt quickly to your situation.
- It’s more accessible for clients who don’t live in a major urban centre, or don’t drive.
- It cuts down on our overall carbon footprint, as neither you or your therapist are driving to attend appointments.
What do I need for a virtual session?
A phone, tablet, or computer with a camera, a headset for audio, and a microphone (what is built into your device should be adequate).
Other than that, you need a place where you can sit relatively uninterrupted for the duration of the session. Yes, if that means your cat insists on being in the room with you, that’s okay – pets can be an important part of the process.
Is Virtual Therapy Effective?
There are some concerns around ensuring privacy and security. I have selected Owl Practice as a preferred platform specifically because their software and environment meets both the practical security requirements and the legislative requirements for healthcare practitioners in Canada.
