We all need someone we can talk to in confidence to help us sort out our thoughts and feelings. Often that person is a friend, colleague or spouse. That can be really valuable for all of us, but it also has limits because that person is a part of your day to day life.
A counsellor can help you work through the issues and emotions your are dealing with by being the objective observer that can help you see the patterns that you may not be able to see in yourself. In individual counselling, we work together to sort through things and come up with a plan that will help you in your particular context.
Using a client-centred approach, I focus on you and your strengths to help you find solutions that work for you.
Common Topics in Individual Counselling:
-
- ADHD
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Grief
- Stress
- Loneliness
Note: By “Client Centred”, I am referring to the approach to therapy that was developed by Carl R. Rogers.
Rogers argues that most clients benefit primarily from a combination of positive regard and empathy between the client and therapist.
What I like about this philosophy is that it is non-pathologizing – the language of diagnosis is less important than helping you find solutions that work for you.
